Medupi Power Plant – Fire Assessment
PMC was instructed by Eskom to conduct an audit of its Fire Protection Systems for the newly constructed Medupi Power Station. Medupi Power Station is a dry-cooled coal-fired power station built by Eskom near Lephalale in Limpopo province, South Africa.
Cape Town Film Studios
HVAC and Lift Installation to:
- 4 x Filming Studios
- Support Offices
- Workshops
The Cape Town Film studio is unique project in that it will be the largest filming facility in Africa. It will incorporate 3x 2500 m² + 1x 1850 m² sound stages and 3x 2500 m² Workshops, TV studio. Each stage will have support offices and change areas of 550 m² each.
All of these facilities are fully air conditioned. Stringent sound attenuation is required for the filming and recording periods. Additional services required include Fuel Storage and dispensing, Chemical storage and filtrations cleaning for disposal, compressed air supply and smoke ventilation for sound stages. The design is therefore tailor made to the filming process and the specific need to flexibility due the varying shooting scenarios. Whilst the design complies with all aspects of the National Building Regulations it is designed with flexibility and energy efficiency in mind to overcome the large lighting loads for the filming sets. The overall HVAC design covers the entire site with a central system taking into account additional external tents and future buildings.
Western Cape Harbours
Rational Fire Design, Upgrading of the Fire Fighting Capability of the entire site and buildings including remote fire detection and automatic gas suppression. The project entails the design of a new storage reservoir, pumping station, site reticulation for the entire perimeter, external hydrants and valve stations. Electrical/Electronic installation, Fire detection.
Oudtshoorn Male and Female Prison
Electrical and Mechanical Components.
The prison facilities run by the Department of Correctional Facilities are a highly demanding and abusive environment , but require to remain functional at all times. The installations comprise of the incoming electrical powers supplies, substations, standby generators, distribution. Lighting, intercom and access control systems are integral aspect of security. The mechanical equipment consists of HVAC, Ventilation to kitchens, Rational Fire Design fire fighting, sprinklers, kitchen and laundry equipment, hot water generators, boilers, refrigeration, and water pumping systems.
Simonstown Naval Base-Armaments Depot
The Simonstown Naval Base Armaments Depot forms the main storage and dispatch of Naval Weapons for the Navy. This facility is highly secure military facility housing highly explosive weapons and providing support for the repair and maintenance of the armaments and weapons.
The entire site with more than 100 buildings covers several square kilometers of various usage. Highly explosive workshops, laboratories, offices and support buildings each with its own design requirements. Rational Fire Design, Upgrading of the Fire Fighting Capability of the entire site and buildings including remote fire detection and automatic gas suppression. The project entails the design of a new storage reservoir,pumping station, site reticulation for the entire perimeter (approximately 14kms), external hydrants and valve stations. Electrical/Electronic installation, Fire detection to the red zone (armaments storage areas), administration buildings and support buildings including workshops. Sprinkler, hose reels and extinguishers to all buildings.
New control and monitoring centre for fire detection with FM200 protection.
A 36 month maintenance period was included to maintain functionality for this vital installation.
Drakenstein Prison
